Tutoring Prices in Switzerland — All-In, Per 60 Minutes

Tutoring with Good Tutors Finder costs CHF 85, CHF 95 or CHF 130 per 60 minutes, all-in, depending on your child's age and the work. Buying a prepaid package lowers that figure: ten Specialist hours cost CHF 810, which is CHF 81 an hour. Across the wider Swiss market, published rates run from about CHF 20 to CHF 260 per 60 minutes.

Your child's age and the work decide between Foundation and Specialist. A learner aged 10 or under is Foundation at CHF 85. From age 11, a school subject is Specialist at CHF 95 — IB Higher Level included. True-beginner German or French is Foundation at any age, including for adults. Distinction at CHF 130 is not a level above them: it is our most accomplished tutors, and you can choose it on any work, whatever your child is studying.

Twelve months from the day you buy it. Inside that, a shorter clock protects the rate you paid — one month on a 5-hour package, two on a 10-hour, three on a 20-hour — and it pauses over your canton's school holidays. When the rate window closes nothing is taken: the hours you have had are recalculated at the standard rate and the balance stays on your account for the rest of the year.

The hours you have already taken are recalculated at the standard rate, and whatever is left stays on your account as a balance in Swiss francs, usable against the price at the time for the rest of the twelve months. Nothing is confiscated at that point. You may also ask for one free one-month extension, up to 30 days before the window closes — we offer it before you have to ask.

No — the price is identical. A lesson at your kitchen table in Geneva and a lesson online cost exactly the same, anywhere in Switzerland. There is no travel surcharge and no in-person premium. Some Swiss providers charge CHF 30 to CHF 45 more per hour for face-to-face tuition; we do not, because you should not pay for a tutor's commute. Yes. Every figure on this page is one all-in amount in Swiss francs, and it is the same amount on your receipt. Nothing is added at checkout. There is no registration fee, no enrolment fee, no admin fee, no travel surcharge and no minimum term, and the figure does not change between a lesson at home and a lesson online.

Yes, in two situations. Before any lesson is taken, a package is refunded in full to your card within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. And if the first lesson on your package is not right, we refund the whole package to your card, including that lesson. After that, packages are not refunded in cash and unused hours cannot be cashed out — instead we assign a different tutor at no cost.

The default session is 90 minutes and you may choose 60. The price per hour is identical either way, and packages are sold in hours rather than in lessons — ten hours is ten hours, however you split it. A 90-minute session usually runs as diagnosis, then teaching, then exam-level practice.

No. Every package is paid in full by card at purchase, because the lower hourly figure is what you get for paying upfront — splitting the payment would give away the thing being paid for. Bank transfer is available on request. Packages are one-off purchases, not subscriptions, so there is no recurring billing and nothing to cancel.

Because twenty hours with our most accomplished tutors is a conversation about a named objective, not a checkout button. Tell us the goal and the date and we will quote it on request, at the 10-hour hourly figure or better. Foundation and Specialist both publish a 20-hour package at CHF 1,390 and CHF 1,560.

Your first hour is charged at that tier's 10-hour package rate — CHF 72 Foundation, CHF 81 Specialist, CHF 111 Distinction — so you start at our best rate rather than our highest one. If you then buy a package, that hour counts towards it. We do not offer a free trial, because a free lesson is a sample rather than teaching.

No. One rate card applies in every canton, at home and online. Zug, Basel, Zurich, Geneva, Lausanne and Bern are where our tutors travel most, and online lessons reach everywhere else at the same price. Where you live changes nothing about what you pay.

Sometimes, and not always — we would rather say that than sell you a number. Paid tutoring is normal in Switzerland rather than remedial: in the most recent national study of its kind (SKBF/CSRE, 2014, on 2011/12 PISA data), over 34% of Swiss pupils in grades 8 and 9 had used it, and two-thirds of those went regularly. That research publishes no cost figure, and we hold no measured grade data of our own, so you will not find a success rate here. It is not worth it when the real problem is workload organisation rather than the subject, or when the school's own support has not been tried yet. It is worth it when a specific syllabus, at a specific level, is genuinely not landing — and the hour is taught by someone who has taught that syllabus before.

Because they are not quoted in the same unit. Swiss providers sell lessons of 45, 50, 60 and 90 minutes and quote all of them as a rate, so the headline numbers cannot be compared. One worked conversion: a CHF 75 lesson lasting 45 minutes is CHF 100.00 per 60 minutes, a third more than it looks. Group courses are the other route, and they are less of a saving than families expect — fit4school publishes a Zurich Gymi course at CHF 3,980 individually and CHF 3,180 in a small group for 45 lessons of 60 minutes, which is CHF 88.44 and CHF 70.67 an hour, read on its own site in August 2026. One caution: a Zurich half-year course advertised at CHF 3,490 publishes no lesson count, so its hourly cost cannot be worked out at all. And one honest note: Zug has no Gymi entrance exam, admission is prüfungsfrei, so a family in Zug does not need Gymi preparation and we will not sell it.
