Terms of Use — Tutoring in Switzerland

By booking a lesson or a package with Good Tutors Finder, or by using this website, you accept these terms in full. If you are booking on behalf of a child, you confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian and that you accept these terms on their behalf.

1Who we are

Good Tutors Finder is a tutoring service operated by CANICET GmbH, a company registered in Switzerland.

CANICET GmbH also operates other household and education services under separate brands. Those are governed by their own terms; these terms cover Good Tutors Finder only.

2What Good Tutors Finder is — and what it is not

Good Tutors Finder is not a placement agency, a tutor marketplace, a directory or a platform. We do not introduce you to a self-employed person and step away. We contract with you in our own name to deliver tuition, we direct that tuition, and we invoice you for the lesson.

You have a single agreement with us and a single payment to us. There is never a separate payment to a tutor, and you must not make one (see section 14).

3The service

We provide one-to-one tutoring, at your home or online, across all Swiss cantons. The price is identical either way — there is no travel surcharge and no cantonal difference.

• Who we teach. School pupils, university students and adult learners.
• Curricula. All curricula, including IB Diploma, IB Middle Years and Primary Years Programmes, IGCSE, A-Level, AP, Swiss Matura including bilingual Matura, Gymi and ZAP entrance preparation, and Swiss state and international school programmes.
• Subjects. All subjects, including language learning at every level.
• Language of delivery. Every tutor teaches in English as a minimum. German- and French-language delivery is arranged on request.
• Where. Switzerland only. We do not currently sell tutoring for delivery outside Switzerland.

We do not offer group tuition, classroom teaching, homework supervision as a standalone service, or any form of assessment, examination or certification.

4Booking

You book online yourself. Bookings are made at goodtutorsfinder.ch/book-a-tutor/. Our team may explain the service, answer questions and calculate prices, but will never submit a booking or put a payment through on your behalf.

When you book we ask for the learner’s age band, the school system and programme, the subject or subjects, when you want to start, whether lessons are at home or online, your postcode if lessons are at home, and how to reach you.

A booking is accepted when we confirm it to you. Where you have chosen to pay at the point of booking, the contract is formed when the payment is successfully processed.

5Assigning your tutor

We assign a named tutor on subject, curriculum, level and availability. Assignment is typically within 48 to 72 hours of your enquiry. Faster is often possible but is never guaranteed, and the 48–72 hour window is a normal expectation rather than a contractual deadline.

• You do not choose the tutor. We assign, because the assignment is made on fit rather than on a profile page.
• Reassignment is free, at any point. If the tutor is not the right fit at any stage, we assign a different one at no cost and with no friction. Your hours stay with you, never with a particular tutor.
• We do not promise a specific individual until assignment is confirmed, and we do not describe a tutor as an examiner, an international-school teacher or a subject specialist unless that is true of the individual assigned to you.

Where a tutor is unavailable for a scheduled lesson, we will offer a replacement or reschedule the hour. The hour is not deducted from your package if we cannot deliver it.

6Lessons

Everything is priced and sold in hours of 60 minutes. Packages are sold in hours, never in “lessons”.

• The default session is 90 minutes. You may choose 60 minutes instead. The price per hour is identical either way, and we never charge more per hour for a shorter session.
• Ten hours is ten hours, however you split it across sessions.
• Lessons are arranged directly with your tutor around your availability, within the hours you have bought.

For at-home lessons you agree to provide a suitable, safe place to work. For online lessons you are responsible for the learner’s device and internet connection; we cannot credit an hour lost to a fault at your end, though in practice we will always try to help.

7Prices and tiers

Two things set whether you are quoted Foundation or Specialist: the age of the learner and the complexity of the work. The city, the subject name and whether lessons are at home or online never affect it. Distinction is not a third level. It is our most accomplished tutors, and you may choose it on any work, at any age and any level, at the Distinction rate.

A learner aged 11 or over is never quoted Foundation for a school subject, however basic the material. The one exception is language: a true beginner is Foundation at any age.

Buying hours up front lowers the price per hour. The saving is stated in Swiss francs.

Distinction publishes no 20-hour package. Twenty hours with our most accomplished tutors is quoted on request against a named objective. Current prices are always published at goodtutorsfinder.ch/tutoring-prices/; where this page and that page ever differ, the published price page governs the amount charged.

8Your first lesson

We do not offer a free trial lesson. A free lesson is a sample rather than teaching, and we would rather teach.

The first lesson is also where both guarantees in section 12 attach, and it is where a language learner’s level is confirmed if it was uncertain when we quoted. It is charged at the tier quoted. We never reprice a lesson already taught.

9Payment

• Packages are prepaid in full by card. The lower hourly figure is what you get for paying up front, so the payment is not split. Bank transfer is available on request.
• Packages are one-off purchases, not subscriptions. There is no recurring billing, no standing order and nothing to cancel.
• Card payments are processed by our payment provider. Card details are entered directly with them and are never stored by us.
• Where an invoice is issued rather than a card taken, it is due on receipt unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. If an invoice is unpaid we may suspend lessons until it is settled, having told you first.

Prices may change, but a change never affects a package you have already bought.

Two separate clocks run on every package, and they do different things. We state both, every time.

The best-rate window

• It pauses over your canton’s school holidays, automatically. Cantonal calendars differ and we apply yours.
• One free one-month extension, requestable up to 30 days before the window closes and approved automatically. We also offer it to you unprompted once you are 80% of the way through the window. The extension extends the best-rate window only.
• Nothing is confiscated when it closes. Hours already taken are repriced at the standard hourly rate and the balance stays on your account. You lose a discount; you do not lose money.

The 12-month validity

• Your balance is held in Swiss francs, not in hours. A balance of CHF 145 is CHF 145. It is redeemed against the standard rate current on the day of the lesson.
• We will remind you twice, unprompted — at nine months and again at eleven months. This is a commitment, not a courtesy.
• The 12-month clock does not pause over school holidays. Only the best-rate window pauses.
• If you ask to use a balance shortly after the 12-month date, we will say yes on first request. The date exists to close an open-ended liability, not to keep your money.

11Cancelling or moving a lesson

Free cancellation until 17:00 the day before the session. A lesson cancelled or rescheduled before that cut-off is not deducted from your package.

A lesson cancelled after the cut-off, or a session where the learner is not available at the agreed time, is deducted. Children get ill and school trips move; if something genuinely unavoidable happens, tell us and we will look at it properly rather than apply the rule mechanically.

12Guarantees and refunds

The first lesson decides — and you choose what happens

If the first lesson on a package does not meet your expectations for tutor knowledge or professionalism, you choose which of these applies. We never choose on your behalf and we never steer you towards the second one.

Where a first lesson was bought on its own rather than as part of a package, the money-back branch refunds that lesson in full. The principle is that everything paid on that purchase goes back.

Fourteen days to change your mind

A package is refunded in full to your card within 14 days of purchase, provided no lesson has been taken. Swiss law gives no statutory right of withdrawal for purchases made online, so this is a guarantee we give voluntarily.

After that

There is no minimum term, no notice period and no enrolment fee. You can stop at any time.

13Your responsibilities

• Give us accurate information about the learner’s age, level and curriculum. The Foundation or Specialist rate and the assignment both depend on it.
• Provide a suitable and safe place to work for at-home lessons, and a working device and connection for online ones.
• Ensure an adult is contactable during at-home lessons with a minor. We do not provide childcare or supervision, and a tutor is not responsible for a child outside the lesson.
• Treat our tutors with respect. We will end an arrangement, and refund any unused balance, where a tutor is subjected to abusive, discriminatory or unsafe behaviour.
• Tell us about anything that affects how the lesson should be taught. Please share medical, diagnostic or safeguarding information with us directly rather than through a web form.

Tutoring supports learning. It is not a substitute for schooling, and it is not a clinical, therapeutic or diagnostic service of any kind.

14Working directly with a tutor

This is not there to trap you. Our tutors are our employees — we recruit them, vet them, train them, insure them and pay their social contributions. Engaging one privately removes all of that protection from you and from them, and it is the one thing that makes the employed model impossible to sustain. If you want more hours, more subjects or a different arrangement, ask us; the answer is almost always yes.

15Liability

• We do not guarantee results. No grade, mark, examination outcome, school place or admission is promised, and none can be. Tutoring is provided on a best-endeavours basis by qualified and experienced tutors.
• Our tutors are insured through us. Employer liability, accident cover and all social contributions are ours, not yours.
• To the fullest extent Swiss law permits, we are not liable for indirect, consequential or special loss arising from the service.
• Our total liability in any circumstance is limited to the amount you paid us in the preceding twelve months.
• Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, or personal injury or death caused by negligence.

If a tutor accidentally damages something in your home, tell us within 24 hours and we will deal with it properly and case by case.

16Accounts and website use

You are responsible for keeping your account details confidential and for activity under your account. Tell us immediately if you suspect someone else has access.

The following are not permitted: using the site for any unlawful purpose; scraping, bulk extraction or automated access without our written consent; uploading malicious code; and infringing our intellectual property or anyone else’s.

All content on this site — text, design, layout, code and teaching materials we provide — belongs to CANICET GmbH or its licensors. You may use it for your own tutoring with us; you may not republish or resell it. We may suspend or close an account that breaches this section.

17Privacy and cookies

We collect only the personal data we need to arrange and deliver your tutoring. We never sell personal data. Cookies are used for core website function and for analytics.

You may ask us at any time what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, subject to any legal obligation to retain it. Our full privacy notice is published separately and sets out what we collect, why, how long we keep it and every country your data is transferred to.

18Third-party links

This site links to other websites from time to time. We are not responsible for their content, their privacy practices or their terms.

19Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The current version is always published at goodtutorsfinder.ch/terms-of-use/ with its version number and effective date at the top. A change never alters the price, validity or guarantee of a package you have already bought — those are governed by the terms in force on the day you bought it. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the revised terms for anything bought afterwards.

20Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed exclusively by Swiss law.

The place of jurisdiction is Zug, Switzerland. If you are a consumer, you keep the forum Swiss law gives you — you may bring a claim either at Zug or at the court for your own place of residence, and nothing in these terms asks you to give that up in advance.

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest continues in force.
