Maths Tutors in Zurich — Every Syllabus, One Rate

4.9rated by families in Switzerland · from 1,756 client reviews

A maths tutor in Zurich has six different syllabuses to keep straight. Analysis and Approaches and Applications and Interpretation, at Standard and Higher Level. MYP criterion work. Cambridge IGCSE Core and Extended, and Additional Mathematics on top. A-Level and Further Maths. The Swiss Matura Grundlagenfach and the Schwerpunktfach. And the ZAP paper, sat by children still in primary school. We assign on which one, not on who once studied maths.

Prepaid hours from CHF 85, all-in, per 60 minutes. Standard and Higher Level cost the same — CHF 95.

Maths tutoring in Zurich

What does a maths tutor in Zurich cost?

A maths tutor in Zurich costs CHF 85, CHF 95 or CHF 130 per 60 minutes with Good Tutors Finder, all-in. Nearly all secondary maths sits at CHF 95 — and that figure does not move because the paper is Higher Level. Ten prepaid Specialist hours are CHF 810, which is CHF 81 an hour.

Secondary maths, all-in

CHF 95

The Specialist rate covers IB Standard and Higher Level, MYP, IGCSE, A-Level, Matura and ZAP maths. Nothing is added at checkout.

6 syllabuses

AA and AI at two levels, MYP, IGCSE Core and Extended plus Additional Mathematics, A-Level and Further Maths, the Matura Grundlagenfach and Schwerpunktfach, and the ZAP paper — all taught within half an hour of each other in this canton.

Same rate at HL

Higher Level is Specialist work at CHF 95. A syllabus label never moves the price, and the label on a paper never moves the tier.

The next ZAP. Its maths paper is a gymnasium entrance paper sat by primary-school children, and it is prepared for as Specialist work.

Which maths

The six maths courses taught in this canton

"Maths tutoring in Zurich" is not one job. These are genuinely different specifications with different mark schemes, different calculator rules and different examiners, and a tutor who is excellent at one can be the wrong choice for another.

IB

Analysis and Approaches, and Applications and Interpretation

Two separate Diploma courses, each at Standard and Higher Level. AA leans on proof, calculus and algebra; AI on modelling, statistics and the graphic display calculator.

Both carry an Internal Assessment — a piece of written mathematical exploration that a lot of otherwise strong candidates lose marks on because nobody taught them the criteria. Tutored as ordinary hours.

MYP

MYP mathematics

Standard and Extended, assessed against four criteria rather than a percentage. Criterion C, communicating in mathematical form, is the one that surprises families arriving from a marks-based system.

This is where the ground for the Diploma is either laid or not, particularly for a child who will take AA Higher Level in two years' time.

IGCSE

Cambridge IGCSE, Core and Extended

Two tiers with different grade ceilings, plus Additional Mathematics as a separate qualification for pupils heading towards A-Level or the Diploma.

Choosing the tier is a real decision with real consequences, and it is worth taking with someone who has taught both papers rather than only read about them.

Matura

The Swiss Matura

Mathematics as a Grundlagenfach for every candidate, and as part of the mathematisch-naturwissenschaftliches Schwerpunktfach for some — taught in German, examined in German, on a cantonal syllabus.

At Literargymnasium and Realgymnasium Rämibühl mathematics is one of the subjects taught in English on the combined bilingual Matura and IB Diploma route, which is a genuinely different job again.

ZAP

The Zurich entrance paper

The maths half of the central entrance examination, sat on Monday 8 March 2027. The Langgymnasium paper is taken in the sixth primary year; the Kurzgymnasium paper is longer.

It rewards accuracy under time pressure on material the candidate has largely met, which makes it a different preparation from ordinary school maths.

A-L

A-Level and Further Mathematics

Taught at International School Zurich North alongside Cambridge IGCSE, and sat by Zurich families at other schools too.

Further Mathematics in particular is a small-cohort subject where school support can be thin, and it is one of the commonest reasons a Zurich family comes to us in the autumn term.

Across the canton

Where in Zurich we teach

Canton Zurich is twelve districts and more than a million and a half people, and its schools are spread right across them — the international campuses on the lake and in the Glattal, the Kantonsschulen in the city, and a ZAP cohort in every commune. Tutors travel to all of it, and the online price is identical, so distance never changes what you pay.

City of Zurich

8001 – 8064

The two Rämibühl gymnasiums, Kantonsschule Hottingen and the Freies Gymnasium, plus the largest ZAP cohort in Switzerland. Most of our city work sits in Kreis 6, 7 and 8.

Küsnacht, Zollikon & Zumikon

8700 · 8702 · 8126

The right bank. Kantonsschule Küsnacht and the Inter-Community School at Zumikon — the full IB continuum from the Primary Years to the Diploma, in one village.

Adliswil, Kilchberg & Thalwil

8134 · 8802 · 8800

The Sihl valley and the left bank. Zurich International School's Adliswil campus, and with it most of our Diploma and Advanced Placement travel.

Wallisellen, Opfikon & Dübendorf

8304 · 8152 · 8600

The Glattal. Swiss International School and International School Zurich North sit here, and the Lycée Français Marie Curie is just above Dübendorf at Gockhausen.

Winterthur

8400 – 8409

The canton's second city, with its own Kantonsschulen and its own ZAP volume, about twenty-five minutes from the Hauptbahnhof. Tutors travel; many families here also take the online rate.

Uster, Wetzikon & the Oberland

8610 · 8620

The S-Bahn corridor east. Gymi preparation and Sekundarschule work dominate, and evening slots are easier to hold online in winter.

Horgen, Wädenswil & the left bank

8810 · 8820

Down the lake towards Schwyz. Long commutes into the city, so families here often run one lesson at home each week and the rest online.

Bülach, Kloten & the Unterland

8180 · 8302

The airport corridor, and the part of the canton where families most often arrive mid-year. Arrival English and arrival German start here more than anywhere else.

Not in Zurich? We work in every canton — Zug and Basel among them, or Gymi preparation and Swiss Matura tutoring wherever you are. The full list is on areas served.

How it works

How do you get a tutor in Zurich?

Three steps, and the first takes two minutes. You book online yourself — we will never put a charge through on your behalf.

  • Tell us three things. Your child's age, the school and year group, and the date you are working towards. Those set the tier, the pack size and the urgency. Nobody else asks about the date.
  • We assign a tutor in 48 to 72 hours, chosen on subject, curriculum, level and availability, then confirmed with you on WhatsApp. If the fit is wrong we reassign at no cost.
  • Start with one hour, not a leap. The first hour is charged at the standard rate for the tier — CHF 85, CHF 95 or CHF 130. Buy a package afterwards and that amount comes straight off it, so the hour you have already had is re-priced at the package rate too.
  • Lessons at home or online, priced the same. Tutors travel across the canton, from the city out to Winterthur and the Oberland; online covers the rest of Switzerland and the weeks your family is away.

Prices and packages

Prices for a maths tutor in Zurich

Maths is priced exactly like every other subject: by your child's age and the complexity of the work, never by the topic and never by the level of the paper. Analysis and Approaches Higher Level costs the same as Applications and Interpretation Standard Level. Distinction is different again — it is our most accomplished tutors, and you can choose it on any of this, at any level.

Foundation — CHF 85 an hour. Any subject, any curriculum, for a learner aged 10 or under — most of our PYP and lower-MYP work in Zumikon and Wallisellen. Plus true-beginner German or French at CEFR A1–A2, at any age, including the newly-arrived parent.

How long you have

A full year to use your package. Your best rate held for up to three months.

There are two clocks and they do different things. The short one protects the rate you paid. The long one is how long the value stays on your account. Most of this market publishes neither.

10 hoursBest rate held for 2 months
20 hoursBest rate held for 3 months
Every package — valid for 12 months from the day you buy it Your value stays on your account for a full year, whatever the rate window does.
  • The rate clock pauses over your commune's school holidays, automatically, on the cantonal calendar rather than a generic Swiss one. The dates are in the table below, and they are not Zurich's.
  • One free one-month extension on the rate window, for the asking, up to 30 days before it closes. Auto-approved, and we offer it before you have to ask.
  • When the rate window closes, nothing is taken. The hours you have already had are recalculated at the standard rate, and the balance stays on your account for the rest of the twelve months, used against the price at the time.
  • You will hear from us long before the year is up. A reminder at nine months, another at eleven. A balance still unused after twelve months closes — but it should never come as a surprise, and it never has to happen.
A worked example, on Zurich's calendar. A family in Küsnacht buys a Specialist 10-hour package on 1 September. The two-month rate window would ordinarily close on 1 November — but the city's autumn holidays run from 5 to 17 October, so the clock stops for those thirteen days and the window closes on 14 November instead. Nobody has to ask for that, and nobody has to notice it.

Which calendar your rate clock follows. In canton Zurich each commune sets its own Volksschule holidays; only the start of the year and the Christmas break are binding canton-wide, and the Bildungsdirektion sets the Mittelschule dates centrally with the sports holidays split into three regional windows. The international schools set their own terms again. The full 2026/27 table is on the private tutors in Zurich page. Tell us the school and we run the clock on that calendar.

Every figure on this page is in Swiss francs, all-in, per 60 minutes, correct as of August 2026, and identical at home and online. Full grid on the tutoring prices page.

Still deciding

You do not have to buy a package to meet a tutor

Take one hour at the standard rate — CHF 85, CHF 95 or CHF 130 depending on the tier. If you carry on, that amount comes off your package in full, so the hour you have already had is re-priced at the package rate along with the rest. There is no cheaper way in and no penalty for starting small.

Tell us the school, the year group and the paper. We come back with a tutor who has taught it, typically within 48 to 72 hours.

Where the money goes

What CHF 95 an hour buys in maths

Zurich is full of maths tutoring and a good deal of it is sold on where the tutor studied. That is a proxy. Here is what we sell instead.

A tutor who has taught that paper

Not a mathematician who is confident they could. IGCSE Extended, AA Higher Level and a Matura Grundlagenfach have different mark schemes and different examiners, and knowing where the marks are is a taught skill rather than a mathematical one.

The same rate at Higher Level

Standard Level and Higher Level are both Specialist at CHF 95 an hour. We do not price by difficulty, and the label on a paper never moves the tier. Distinction sits alongside, not above: our most accomplished tutors, yours to elect on any work at any level.

60 full minutes, always

Not 45. Comparing headline maths rates in this canton is close to meaningless because the unit changes between providers. Ours is the full hour, with the per-hour figure printed under every package price.

A first lesson you cannot lose on

If the first lesson on your package is not right, you choose: the whole package refunded to your card including that hour, or a different tutor with the hour credited back. We never choose for you.

95% of the students who joined us before September achieved their target grades by May.

Our tutors

Who teaches the maths, and what they have taught before

Every tutor is employed through CANICET GmbH, a Zug company — not subcontracted and not introduced to you as a freelancer. Social contributions, accident cover and liability insurance sit with us, and your family carries no employment obligation at all.

The question is not whether someone is good at the subject. It is whether they have taught the paper your child is sitting, in the system your child is sitting it in.

Assigned, not browsed

You do not sort through a list of strangers. Tell us the subject, the level and the session, and we assign the right person within 48 to 72 hours.

Reassigned without friction

If the fit is wrong, say so. We reassign at no cost, and your hours stay with your family — they were never attached to one tutor.

Examiners on the bench

Our tutors include IB and IGCSE examiners, internal-assessment moderators, and current and former international-school teachers. Which of those is true of the person coming to you is confirmed when we assign them — never promised before, because that would be a promise about someone we have not yet named.

If it goes wrong

What happens if it isn't right?

The strongest thing we can tell you about a first lesson is what happens if it disappoints you. When it does, you choose which of the first two applies — we do not choose for you.

01

Not right? Your money back.

If the first lesson on your package does not meet your expectations for tutor knowledge or professionalism, we refund the whole package to your card — including the hour you had. No questions, no conditions, nothing to argue about.

02

Or carry on with someone else.

Would you rather stay? We assign a different tutor and credit that hour straight back to your package. Your choice, not ours — and you can ask for a different tutor at any later point too, at no cost.

03

Fourteen days to change your mind

Bought a package and had second thoughts before starting? A full refund to your card within 14 days, provided no lesson has been taken. Switzerland gives no statutory right of withdrawal online — this one is ours, voluntarily.

04

Free cancellation until 17:00

Cancel or reschedule until 17:00 the day before and the hour is not deducted from your package. Children get ill and school trips move; that is not something to be charged for. No minimum term — stop whenever you like — and no enrolment fee.

What parents tell us

Named by first name and initial, with the city and the exact tuition they bought. Every rating below was given to us directly by the family it is attributed to — and our independent Review Atlas profile stands at 4.9 out of 5 from 1,756 reviews.

★★★★★

Our daughter had lost confidence in Maths and was becoming anxious before tests. Her tutor went back to the areas she had not fully understood and rebuilt them step by step. She is now much more comfortable solving problems independently.

Emma R. · Zurich · At-home Maths tuition

★★★★★

The tutor is excellent at explaining difficult mathematical concepts in a logical and accessible way. Instead of simply showing our son the answer, he teaches him how to work through the problem himself. That has made a big difference.

Thomas K. · Küsnacht · Online Maths tuition

★★★★★

We have seen a clear improvement since starting lessons. The tutor quickly identified several fundamental gaps that were making more advanced topics difficult. Our daughter is now more accurate, organised and confident in class.

Anna M. · Zurich · At-home Maths tuition

★★★★★

Very professional and effective Maths tutoring. The sessions combine explanations with lots of targeted practice, and the tutor always checks that our son really understands the method before moving on.

David P. · Horgen · Online Maths tuition

★★★★★

Our daughter needed support preparing for school assessments, and the tutor has been wonderful. She has learned how to approach unfamiliar questions much more systematically and no longer panics when she sees something difficult.

Julia S. · Zollikon · At-home Maths tuition

★★★★★

The quality of the tuition has been excellent. Our son particularly benefits from working through challenging problems together and then attempting similar questions independently. His confidence has grown considerably.

Questions

Common questions about maths tutoring in Zurich

How much does a maths tutor in Zurich cost?

A maths tutor in Zurich costs CHF 85, CHF 95 or CHF 130 per 60 minutes with Good Tutors Finder, all-in. Almost all secondary maths — IB Standard and Higher Level, MYP, IGCSE, A-Level, Matura and ZAP preparation — sits at the Specialist rate of CHF 95. Ten prepaid Specialist hours are CHF 810, which is CHF 81 an hour. The rate is the same at home anywhere in the canton and online.

Is Higher Level maths more expensive than Standard Level?

No. IB Analysis and Approaches Higher Level is Specialist work at CHF 95 an hour, exactly like Standard Level and exactly like Applications and Interpretation. The tier is set by your child's age and the complexity of the work, not by the label on the paper. If you would like our most accomplished tutors on it, Distinction is CHF 130 and it is your choice — some families take it for the final year, and plenty do not.

Do you tutor Analysis and Approaches as well as Applications and Interpretation?

Both, at Standard and Higher Level. They are genuinely different courses rather than two difficulties of one: AA leans on proof, calculus and algebraic manipulation, AI on modelling, statistics and the graphic display calculator. A tutor who has taught one is not automatically the right person for the other, which is why we assign on the course and not on "IB maths".

Can you help with the ZAP maths paper?

Yes, and it is worth being clear about what it is. The ZAP is sat on Monday 8 March 2027 and registration runs from 1 January to 10 February 2027. Candidates for the Langgymnasium are still in their sixth primary year, but the paper is a gymnasium entrance paper — so it is Specialist work at CHF 95 an hour, not the entry rate. Kurzgymnasium candidates sit a longer paper. Preparation that starts in autumn is a different experience from preparation that starts in January.

Our child is at Zurich International School doing AP Calculus. Can you cover that?

Yes. The Upper School at ZIS runs Advanced Placement alongside the IB Diploma, so a Zurich family can be sitting AP and DP papers in the same year. AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics and the IB courses are separate specifications with separate exam styles, and we assign a tutor who has taught the one your child is actually entered for.

Do your maths tutors come from ETH or the university?

Some do, and it is not the thing we would lead with. A postgraduate mathematician who has never taught IGCSE Extended does not know where the marks are on an IGCSE Extended paper. What we assign on is whether the tutor has taught that syllabus at that level — and where a tutor is an examiner or a certified teacher, we say so plainly rather than implying it.

How quickly can a maths tutor start?

We come back with a tutor, typically within 48 to 72 hours. We will not promise faster, because it depends on who is free for that syllabus in that week of term. What we do promise is the first lesson: if it is not right, you choose between the whole package refunded to your card and a different tutor with that hour credited back.

What if maths is not actually the problem?

It happens more often than you would think — the gap is in reading the question, in exam timing, or in a topic two years further back than the one that is failing. Tell us what has been happening and we will say plainly whether maths tutoring is the right answer at all. If it is, book a tutor and tell us the school, the year group and the paper; if it is not, we will say so.
