IB Tutors in Switzerland — Diploma and MYP

CHF 95 per 60 minutes with Good Tutors Finder, at Standard Level and at Higher Level alike, and across the Middle Years Programme, all-in. Prepaid packages lower it: five hours are CHF 440, which is CHF 88 an hour; ten are CHF 810, which is CHF 81; and twenty are CHF 1,560, which is CHF 78. A learner aged 10 or under is Foundation at CHF 85. If you choose Distinction, our most accomplished tutors, at CHF 130 an hour, five of those hours are CHF 600 and ten are CHF 1,110, which is CHF 111 an hour. There is no enrolment fee, no travel surcharge and no difference in price between a lesson at your table and a lesson online. Across the rest of this market published rates run from about CHF 25 an hour on a marketplace to CHF 160 face to face at a Geneva agency that also charges a CHF 100 enrolment fee — but almost none of them tells you how long their lesson is, so the comparison is not one you can actually make.

Thirty-two out of forty-two, bonus points excluded, for the Universities of Basel, Bern, Fribourg, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, St. Gallen and Zurich, and for USI. Alongside the total, swissuniversities requires six subjects — one from each of the six groups — with at least three taken at Higher Level, one of which must be mathematics or another natural science. Language requirements for the degree itself are reserved on top of that. Note the denominator: Swiss thresholds are stated out of 42, the six subjects, with the three bonus points from Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay excluded. A good deal of advice online quotes the same threshold out of 45, and at least one widely shared page says 46, which is not a number that exists.

Yes — 38 out of 42, bonus points excluded, at both. EPFL additionally requires mathematics and physics at Higher Level plus chemistry, biology or computer science, with final grades in mathematics and physics of at least 6 out of 7. ETH prescribes its own Higher Level composition and offers a reduced entrance examination as the route for candidates below the threshold. Six points above the general bar is not a revision problem; it is a two-year problem, and the subject conditions bite harder than the total does. A student on Applications and Interpretation, or on Standard Level physics, is outside the EPFL requirement whatever their points — and that choice is made at sixteen, on the option form.

It is recognised, but not in the same way, and the difference is the one that catches families out. A Swiss gymnasiale Maturität opens a university place by completion. The IB Diploma is a recognised foreign upper-secondary certificate that opens one by score — the thresholds above, plus the subject-group and Higher Level conditions. Both routes work. Only one of them is unconditional. A family that has moved from a Maturität-shaped assumption often does not discover this until DP2, which is exactly when it is most expensive to fix.

Yes, within a line that is real and that we publish rather than blur. We will teach the subject content, explain the assessment criteria band by band, interrogate a research question your child has proposed, discuss method and sources, read a draft your child has written and give feedback on it, build a timeline against your school's internal deadlines, and rehearse the reflection sessions and the concluding interview. We will not write any part of it, edit or proofread the text, hand your child a ready-made research question, fix the bibliography, produce the data or run repeated rounds of edits. The IB's own academic integrity policy says students "are expected to produce work autonomously and should not receive additional help, such as multiple edits of a piece of work", and asks candidates to "avoid unauthorized external assistance from tutors, essay mills, or third parties". It also defines misconduct as "deliberate or inadvertent" — so a tutor tidying a paragraph to be helpful is still misconduct, and it is your child who carries it. One provider currently ranking for Swiss IB searches openly advertises a Theory of Knowledge writing service. We are the opposite of that, on purpose.

It does — for the school supervisor. Those limits are written into the Extended Essay guidance for the teacher who signs the authenticity declaration, alongside three mandatory reflection sessions ending in a short concluding interview. A private tutor is not the supervisor and is not bound by the school's draft count. A private tutor is bound by the rule underneath it: the work must be the student's own, and no help may confer an unfair advantage. Any provider that quietly merges the two is either confused about the rules or hoping that you are. The distinction matters because it tells you what you are actually buying: teaching and feedback, not a second pair of hands on the document.

Fifty of Switzerland's fifty-two IB World Schools are authorised for the Diploma Programme; fourteen also run the Middle Years Programme, thirteen the Primary Years Programme and five the Career-related Programme. Most are private and international — the International School of Geneva and its campuses, Collège du Léman, Institut Florimont, Institut International de Lancy, the International School of Lausanne, ENSR, Champittet, La Côte, Haut-Lac, St. George's, Leysin American School, Le Rosey, Beau Soleil, Aiglon, La Garenne, Ecole Moser, Le Régent, Verbier International School, ISZL at Baar and Hünenberg, Institut Montana Zugerberg, Inter-Community School Zurich, Zurich International School, SIS, International School Basel, Saint Charles Basel, the International School of Berne, International School Rheintal, International School of Schaffhausen, Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, Hochalpines Institut Ftan, TASIS and the International School of Ticino. Six Swiss public gymnasia also run it as a dual track with the cantonal Maturität — the Literargymnasium and Realgymnasium Rämibühl in Zurich, Gymnasium am Münsterplatz and Gymnasium Bäumlihof in Basel-Stadt, and Kantonsschule Wettingen and the Neue Kantonsschule Aarau in Aargau. All six are in German-speaking cantons.

No — both are Specialist at CHF 95 an hour. Higher Level carries more syllabus, harder papers and a top band that is genuinely hard to reach, and it is still CHF 95, exactly as Standard Level is. So are Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay at supervision level, the whole Middle Years Programme and competitive university admissions work. The only figure above CHF 95 is Distinction at CHF 130, and that is our most accomplished tutors rather than a harder level: you can ask for it on any subject at any level, and we will never tell you the work requires Distinction; that is your call, not ours.

Harder than the reputation of any individual subject suggests, because the difficulty is cumulative. For the 2026 session the global average was reported at 30.88 points with a pass rate of about 82.6 per cent, from roughly 210,000 candidates across 3,442 schools, and just over ten thousand students finished above 40 points. Set that against a Swiss university threshold of 32 and an ETH or EPFL threshold of 38, and the shape of the problem is clear: an average Diploma is close to, but not comfortably above, the general Swiss bar, and a long way below the technical one. We cannot tell you the Swiss national average, because the IB does not publish a country mean for Switzerland — it publishes the candidate count, which was 2,249 Diploma students in the May 2025 session, the fourth-largest cohort in its Africa, Europe and Middle East region. Anyone quoting you a Swiss national IB average is quoting something they cannot source.

Typically 48 to 72 hours from your enquiry to a named tutor. Faster is sometimes possible and we will never guarantee it. There is no free trial, and the reason is not meanness: a free lesson signals that the hour is a sample rather than teaching, and it fills a diary with people who were never going to book. Instead the first hour is charged at the standard single-hour rate — CHF 95, or CHF 130 if you have chosen Distinction — and if you then buy a package that amount comes straight off it, so the hour you already had is re-priced at the package rate along with the rest. Ten Specialist hours cost CHF 810 whether you buy the package outright or take one hour first. And that first lesson carries both guarantees: your money back, or a different tutor with the hour credited. You choose which.

The May session examinations run from late April into the middle of May, subject by subject, with results released in early July — the 2026 results were released on 6 July. There is a second, smaller November session. We deliberately do not print a specific session date on this page: the IB issues its schedule to schools, and we will not repeat a date we have not read in the official schedule ourselves. That caution is not theoretical — at least two providers currently ranking for Swiss IB revision courses are advertising dates from 2019 and 2025 on live pages. Internal Assessment and Extended Essay deadlines are not published centrally at all. The IB sets a submission date for schools and states that it is each school's responsibility to get candidate work in, strongly recommending that schools set their own internal deadlines for each stage. So the date that governs your child is your school's date. Ask the Diploma Programme coordinator and work back from it.

Predicted grades are what universities see first, and they are formed from mock performance and coursework rather than from the final examinations. So the honest sequence is: find out which components produced the prediction, whether the gap is content or technique, and whether the target university's threshold is genuinely out of reach or two marks away in one paper. Sometimes the answer is a focused ten hours in one subject. Sometimes it is a conversation about a different university, or about the ETH's reduced entrance examination route, or about the November session. And sometimes the answer is that tutoring is not the thing that will help — in which case we will tell you so. We would rather say that than sell you twenty hours that were never going to move the number.

Yes, and it is often the better purchase. The Middle Years Programme is Specialist at CHF 95 an hour across all eight subject groups, and the work done in MYP 4 and MYP 5 is what determines which Diploma subjects and levels a student is allowed to take — several Swiss schools publish named MYP grade thresholds for entry to Higher Level courses. Once the option form is signed, no amount of tutoring changes which universities remain reachable.
