Yes, and they are tutored as ordinary hours from your package rather than sold as an add-on. The Extended Essay work that matters most is narrowing the research question, and it is worth doing in DP1 rather than in the DP2 rewrite. Theory of Knowledge splits into the exhibition in the first year and the prescribed-title essay in the second, both marked on how the argument is built. Between them the core is worth up to three points, and a failing condition in either can cost the Diploma.

Most Zug families start after the January or February mocks, which leaves ten to twelve working weeks before study leave — enough for a 20-hour package at one session a week. Starting in March leaves about three weeks, which is enough to fix technique but not content. For Internal Assessments the useful window is much earlier: DP1 spring through to the DP2 winter, when they all fall at once.

Yes — with the method, the structure and the criteria, never with the writing. An IA is worth up to a fifth of the subject grade and is marked on how the work was designed and evaluated rather than on the result obtained, which is why an hour with someone who has marked one is worth several spent redoing the experiment. Every school runs its own academic-honesty policy and the work has to be the student's own; a tutor who offers otherwise is putting the Diploma at risk.

No. Canton Zug admits to the Gymnasium through an assessment procedure — marks, the class teacher's assessment, a conversation with parents and a decision by an Übertrittskommission — not a central entrance examination like Zurich's ZAP. If your family is weighing the IB Diploma against the Swiss Matura track in Zug, that is a decision about curriculum and language rather than about an exam to prepare for.

The volume, the independence and the assessment style. IGCSE rewards coverage and recall; the Diploma rewards a sustained line of argument, and it adds six internal assessments, a 4,000-word essay and TOK on top of the subject content. Maths is the steepest single step, particularly into Analysis and Approaches at Higher Level. Institut Montana runs both in the same building, so this transition is a common piece of work for us in Zug — usually a 10-hour package across the first term of DP1.

Yes. MYP is Specialist at CHF 95 an hour from age 11, and Foundation at CHF 85 for a learner aged 10 or under. The two things Zug parents ask for most are a translation of criterion-referenced marking into something they can act on, and support through the personal project. The MYP 5 to DP1 step is its own piece of work and is best started in the summer before, not in October.

Either, at exactly the same price. Tutors travel across the canton — Baar, Hünenberg, Cham, Rotkreuz, the city and the Ägeri valley — with no travel surcharge and no in-person premium. Diploma students often prefer online for short, frequent sessions in the run-up to papers, and switch to the kitchen table for Internal Assessment work. The hours are the same hours either way.

If it was the first lesson on your package, you choose: we refund the whole package to your card, including that lesson, or we assign a different tutor and credit the hour back to your package. Later in a package we reassign at no cost, at any point — your hours belong to your family, never to a particular tutor. In a Diploma year that matters, because a bad fit in October is a term lost.

Yes. IB results are published on 6 July and the decisions that follow — a retake, an enquiry upon results, or a pivot to the November session — are usually taken within a week. November-session work sells through June to August and is delivered from September to November. A 10- or 20-hour package started in July gives a genuine run at a single subject rather than a scramble in October.
