How Good Tutors Finder Works — from your first message to your first lesson

You tell us three things — your child’s age, the curriculum and year group, and the date you are working towards. We assign a tutor on that basis, typically within 48 to 72 hours, and confirm the name with you on WhatsApp. You take one hour at the standard rate for that tier: CHF 85, CHF 95 or CHF 130. If it is right, you buy a package of 5, 10 or 20 hours and the hour you have already paid for comes straight off it. If it is not right, you choose between your money back and a different tutor with that hour credited. Nothing is charged to enquire and nothing is charged to be assigned.

What lengthens it is a narrow requirement — a specific IB Higher Level subject in a specific canton, at a specific time on a specific evening. If we cannot staff something properly we say so rather than assigning a near miss.

No, and that is deliberate. We assign on subject, curriculum, level and availability, and we carry the responsibility for the assignment being right. What you can choose is the tier: if you would like our most accomplished tutors rather than the right tutor for the syllabus, that is Distinction at CHF 130 an hour, and it is available on any work at any level. If the person we assign is not the right fit, we reassign at no cost, and on a first lesson that hour is credited back.

The standard single-hour rate for the tier the work falls in — CHF 85, CHF 95 or CHF 130. It is not free and it is not discounted. If you then buy a package, that amount comes off the package in full, so the hour you have already had is re-priced at the package rate along with the rest. Ten Specialist hours cost CHF 810 whether you buy the package outright or take one hour first. You simply get to meet the tutor before deciding.

Diagnosis first, then teaching. A tutor arriving at a first lesson with a marked paper, a recent test or the last report can usually tell inside twenty minutes whether the gap is knowledge, technique, timing or confidence — four problems that look identical from the outside and need four different plans. The default session is 90 minutes and you may choose 60; the price per hour is the same either way. Bring the most recent piece of marked work you have. It is worth more than any description of the problem.

Directly between you and the tutor, around your week. Most families run one session of 90 minutes a week during term and add a second in the weeks before an examination. You can cancel or move a session free of charge until 17:00 the day before, and it is not deducted from your package. There is no minimum term, no notice period and no enrolment fee.

No. The same figure applies at your kitchen table and on a screen, anywhere in Switzerland, and there is no travel surcharge. Online works better than most parents expect for older students and for anything involving past papers, because the paper can be annotated by both people at once. It works less well for a nine-year-old, who generally needs a person in the room.

Every tutor teaches in English as a minimum. German-language and French-language delivery is arranged on request — say so when you enquire, because it narrows the pool and is better handled at the start than after an assignment. The site itself is published in English, German and French, and the language switcher in the menu moves you between the three.

Yes. Adult learners are common in language work, in professional examinations and in university-level mathematics and statistics. A true beginner in German or French — CEFR A1 or A2, someone who cannot yet hold an everyday conversation without switching to English — is Foundation at CHF 85 an hour at any age, including a newly arrived parent. Above A2, language work is Specialist.

Then tell us that, and we will say so. Some of what parents bring us is not a tutoring problem: a subject chosen badly at the start of the IB, a timetable with no room in it, a child who is tired rather than behind. We would rather say that in a WhatsApp message than sell ten hours against it.
